Hertie Senior Professorship in the Neurosciences

The Hertie Senior Research Professorship in Neuroscience is a new endowed professorship model. It is aimed at outstanding neuroscientists aged 60 or over, who want to dedicate the last years of their professional careers exclusively to research. The primary aim is to retain, support and publicise the great research potential of older scientists. The endowed professorship is also a recognition of an experienced neuroscientist’s many years of outstanding achievements. Additional aims include being able to offer the next generation of scientists attractive jobs of an international standard early on, to enable universities to retain the freedom to shape the content of their professorships and departments in today’s difficult situation, and to shorten the “waning” phase of research institutions in the years preceding the director’s retirement.

Applications for the Hertie Senior Research Professorship are invited every two years. The Hertie Senior Research Professorship in Neuroscience falls under the patronage of the German Minister for Education and Research, Anja Karliczek.
