This year’s Mondino series focuses on so-called misperceptions—moments when our high-performance organ deceives us. As reliably as our brain functions in everyday life, there are times when it independently reinterprets impressions, fills in missing information, or draws incorrect conclusions.
The causes are diverse. They can stem from malfunctions in specific brain regions, resulting from inaccurate internal assumptions or external influences such as stress or illness. The use of medications and drugs can also trigger them. The consequences are often both surprising and unsettling.
In our three new educational videos featuring Dr. Mondino and Prof. Cervello, we clearly and vividly explain what happens in the brain during these experiences, the mechanisms behind them, and why such “errors” occur in the first place. The videos explore hallucinations, false memories, and optical illusions in a way that is both accessible and relevant to everyday life.
Detailed information about this project and our overall activities can be found on the German website.
